This route invites you to embark on a journey through Perm and explore places associated with creativity, art, and contemporary culture. The route combines visits to museums and the exploration of art objects, followed by a delightful dining experience at one of Perm’s trendy restaurants.

1. Tourist information center of Perm

The place where you can plan your trip to Perm and Perm Krai. You can find information about what to do, what to see, what to try or where to go for the weekend, take thematic guides and postcards, buy unique souvenirs. In addition, you can also talk to the robot consultant Julia.

2. Permyak – salty ears

One of the most famous sculpture in Perm, created by Rustam Ismagilov in 2006. On the one hand, it has funny composition and freaky shape, on the other — the monument refers to the history of Perm krai. Historically it was a major salt mining center. Men and women worked in salt industry, carrying bags of salt on their shoulders, which fell on their ears, causing them to blush and swell. Hence the nickname «Permyak — salty ears». In 2009, the monument was awarded the title of «The strangest monument in Russia» by the magazine «Russian World».

3. The legend of the Perm Bear

The bronze bear was presented to Perm on the city Day in 2009. It is popular among tourists and locals alike. There is a legend that if you rub a bear’s paw, ear or nose, then your innermost wish will surely come true.

4. Old brick alley

A few years ago, the old courtyard of the Triumph cinema turned into a «third place»– a modern loft space with philharmonics, cozy cafes and photo zones. In the alley you can find fancy monument of Fedor the raccoon.

5. Theatre Garden and Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre

One of the «must see» places in the Perm. The repertoire of the theater is full of classical and modern, experimental productions.

The ballet school, on which the teachers of the Mariinsky Theater worked, as well as Lyudmila Pavlovna Sakharova, a graduate of the Moscow Choreographic School, an artist of the Bolshoi Theater, and her students, brought world fame to the theater.

The theater was also glorified by the name of Theodor Currentzis. In 2011-2019, he was the artistic director here. Nowadays, Theodore heads one of the main Perm events – the Diaghilev Festival.

6. Merchant Popov ‘s House

Multifunctional space in an 18th-century building. Especially recommended to visit it: the founders of the cafe recreated the stucco on the entrance arches and cleaned the walls of paint, exposing the brickwork. You can look into the house on the way to the city embankment and drink some good coffee.

7. Meshkov’s House 

The example of the eclectic architecture of the late XIX century was built by famous perm citizen, merchant Nikolay Meshkov. The Perm Museum of Local Lore was located here in 2007. There is exhibition of Perm animal style, old interior stuff, documents and photos from different historical periods.

8. «Happiness is just around the corner»

«Happiness is just around the corner» is a well-known Perm art object, captured by millions of tourists and in the frames of famous actors and musicians (for example, in the clip of rapper Kanye West «White dress»). The inscription appears in the movie «Geographer Globe drank» and in the TV series «Real Guys». Souvenir of the «happiness» is sold in many Perm stores: for example, in Perm Sweets, showroom KAMVA, shops Cherdakk, Chest, Russian souvenir, etc.

9. Restaurants «Chaika ZaZa,» «Portofino,» «Expedition»

After a stroll along the waterfront, we recommend replenishing your energy and having a bite to eat at nearby restaurants. «Chaika ZaZa» and «Portofino» are among the favorite establishments of Perm locals, where prices are moderate, and the cuisine is delicious and diverse. The «Expedition» restaurant offers a menu at a higher price point but no less appetizing and colorful.
